Johnston/Urbandale Register

FAST FACTS

The Johnston/Urbandale Register is distributed to both subscribers and non-subscribers in the Johnston and Urbandale Communities, located in the northwest corner of the Des Moines Metro.

Johnston

While not a large population, Johnston residents are a bit older than the metro average and a lot wealthier. Surrounding their homes are signs of upscale living: parks like Saylorville and Big Creek which also offer water sports, boating, camping, and golf courses like Hyperion.

Several marquess businesses call Johnston home, including Pioneer Hi-Bred International, John Deere Credit and Iowa Public Television. Camp Dodge, the Iowa National Guard headquarters, has a strong presence and historical significance in the community as well.

Urbandale

Urbandale is known as a great place to live, work and raise a family. CNN/Money magazine names Urbandale as one of the top 100 places to live in America in 2009. Among the reasons cited were a strong local economy, low taxes, a short commute to work, and the recreation and other outdoor activities in its 900 acres of parkland and 36 miles of hiking trails.

The business climate in Urbandale is booming with new additions like Citigroup's new credit-card processing center, 200,000 square feet of new office space for Marsh, Inc., and The Square at Days Run West. Leading employers include Wells Fargo Financial, the US Postal Service, Continental Insurance, the Allied Insurance Document Solutions Center, and Compressor Controls
