Waukee
Although Waukee is the smallest of our communities it is situated right next to our largest suburb, West Des Moines. A thriving business community, hometown services, new shopping and new restaurants make Waukee an easy-access respite from the busy lifestyles that include managerial jobs for dual income couples and young families. Waukee is also an oasis for affluent Baby Boomers who have fled the city for the charms and lower cost small-town living. These upscale and middle-age households with kids are some of the richest in the exurban areas.
West Des Moines
West Des Moines has a booming population that has surged with residential, business and retail growth. CNN/Money magazine named West Des Moines as one of the top 100 places to live in America in 2010. Among the reasons cited were: the short commute to downtown Des Moines and the many events and activities it provides its residents including farmer’s markets, car shows, and antique stores.
Many businesses have moved west into luxurious new office space. Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, Farm Bureau Insurance, Marsh Insurance, and Hy-Vee Corporate headquarters are just a few. The healthcare industry is also growing in West Des Moines with large, new physician specialty clinics and offices. Highly visible is the booming retail business sector with new strip malls and Jordan Creek Town Center, a large regional shopping mall. The residents of West Des Moines enjoy an easy commute to downtown, lots of restaurants, entertainment and amenities in their suburbs.
